Q1: Why is language X ranked higher than language Y?

A: Rankings follow the AHP-weighted composite of 30 metrics. A language may rank higher due to stronger scores in highly-weighted metrics such as industry adoption, learning curve, or ecosystem maturity.

Q3: How often is the data updated?

A: Data snapshots are refreshed periodically. Each page shows its snapshot date.

Q4: Can I change the weights?

A: Yes. Use the AHP Calculator to customize weights and re-rank the Top 20 languages.

Q5: Why are some metrics subjective?

A: Qualitative metrics (documentation quality, debugging experience) cannot be measured automatically and rely on editorial assessment and developer surveys.

Q6: How are comparisons selected?

A: We generate the top 30 languages pairwise, plus selected comparisons between ranks 31-100 and the top 10.

Q7: Is the salary data global?

A: Salary figures are USD-normalized averages, primarily reflecting the US market.

Q8: What does the benchmarks score measure?

A: It aggregates performance from the Computer Language Benchmarks Game, normalized to a 0-10 scale.

Q9: Why are some languages missing?

A: We cover 200 representative languages. Niche or proprietary languages may be added in future updates.

Q10: How is the consistency of weights verified?

A: Via the Consistency Ratio (CR). Our weights yield CR < 0.10. See Scoring Formula.
